How staking works
Participants commit eligible assets to a proof-of-stake network. Network rules determine rewards and participation conditions.
Learn how proof-of-stake networks use participating assets to help secure a blockchain.
Participants commit eligible assets to a proof-of-stake network. Network rules determine rewards and participation conditions.
Rewards depend on network activity, validator performance and protocol rules. Returns are not guaranteed.
Slashing, validator failure, lockup periods and token price declines can affect the value of staked assets.

Proof-of-stake networks use participating stake as part of their consensus and security mechanisms. Depending on the network, a participant may run a validator or delegate to one. A staking service adds its own contractual and operational layer.
Rewards can reflect protocol issuance and network fees, subject to the network’s rules. Advertised rates may be estimates rather than fixed returns. Validator performance, participation levels and service charges can affect the amount received.
Some networks impose bonding or unbonding periods. Assets may not be immediately available for transfer during these periods. Liquid-staking tokens can introduce separate liquidity, pricing and smart-contract risks.
Evaluate slashing rules, validator reliability, custody arrangements and withdrawal conditions. Token price declines can outweigh staking rewards. This page explains the category and does not accept assets or enroll users in a staking program.
| Topic | What to understand |
|---|---|
| Rewards | Variable and dependent on network conditions |
| Unbonding | A waiting period may apply before assets are accessible |
| Slashing | A protocol penalty that can reduce stake |
| Custody | Who controls keys and withdrawal authorization |
No. Both reward amounts and token prices can change.
That depends on the network and arrangement. Check the actual rules rather than assuming instant access.
No. The page is educational and no staking service is connected.
